Masina completed a year core studies curriculum at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California, 1987. It was there that she became interested in integrating art and spirituality and made the decision to transfer to a college that embraced her ideas and allowed her to map out her own education. She went on to receive a liberal arts degree from John F. Kennedy University in Orinda, California. In 1995, Masina studied with master tile maker Frank Giorgini at Parsons School of Design in New York City, where she learned sculptural tile making. Since that time she has apprenticed and studied with other tile makers around the U.S. Her time is split between her studio at the Berkeley Potters Guild, teaching workshops, applying for public art projects, and raising her daughter.

"For the last few years I've focused on botanicals, adding a whimsical nature to them: nymphs and fairies, big playful bugs. After 15 years, I have returned to the figures which are present in my recent paper clay pieces. My work has been largely influenced by "outsider art", which introduces a playful, spontaneous, authentic voice that lacks the self-censorship of the conventional art world.

These pieces are all about inspiration. They are delicate and fragile. As they dry and are fired, they change, taking on an independent nature of their own. I like the creative experience of trying to control the process and also letting go of it. My most recent subject matter is inspired by human passion, what gets people up and going in the morning, their life force. I begin with whatever I'm feeling pasionate about."
